Chase’s online banking website is back online following a shutdown of several hours. The company said the issue was due to a “technical glitch” that occurred during a weekend upgrade and the issue has been resolved.
Users were receiving a message that tells them the website is “temporarily unavailable” after attempting to log in on Mac and PC browsers and mobile phone applications. The company said there had not been a security breach.
Frustrated users took to Twitter Monday to air their grievances.
“Dear Chase Bank, I have about 10 million expense reports to do, please get your act together so I can see my transactions online!” said one Twitter user.
Meanwhile, some users have received e-mails purporting to be from Chase, asking users to confirm their banking information for “security.”
Christine Holevas, a spokewoman for Chase, said the e-mail is not from Chase and that users should not enter their information. She said the e-mails appear to be unrelated to today’s technical issues and that Chase has not sent any such emails to its customers today.
Chase’s website suffered a major outage in September 2010 that last more than a day — more than 16.5 million customers who use its online services had no access to account information or the ability to pay bills electronically. Less than a year later, the site went down again, this time with a revoked security certificate.
Last November, parts of the site were shut down for upgrades for three days.
