Chronic dissident and one of the lead organizers of the May 20 march against NATO Andy Thayer blames police actions for the outbreaks of violence at prior protests since 1999 in Seattle, Washington, Los Angeles and Chicago (Perspective, May 3). As evidence he cites the various amounts that these cities have paid out to settle lawsuits brought by the protesters.
I wonder, is there is any correlation between the cities’ willingness to admit wrongdoing to the point of settling for millions of dollars and the fact that all four are deeply Democratic blue and have been for generations?
