The mayor’s response to the so-called Ricketts Plan to fund an anti-Obama ad campaign was on target. Quite apart from the hypocrisy of people like the Ricketts, who rail against government spending on “pork-barrel” projects, the funding of private sports ventures with taxpayer dollars needs careful scrutiny with an eye to the payback for Chicago.

I hope the mayor and the City Council will take a long hard look at the Ricketts’ request for millions of dollars in city investment in Wrigley.

It’s time for ending spending action — for the super-rich.
