Richards (1-0) struck out eight and gave up one run and four hits. The right-hander is in the rotation due to the recent back injury suffered by ace Jered Weaver.
Trumbo and Hunter got the offense going for the Angels with back-to-back one-out homers in the second inning against Blake Beavan (3-5).
Seattleâ??s Michael Saunders hit a solo homer in the third inning before the Angels scored twice in the fourth on run-scoring singles by Albert Pujols and Trumbo.
Pujols doubled with one out in the fifth and scored on Trumboâ??s booming two-run homer to center to make it 6-1.
Jason Isringhausen pitched a scoreless eighth and Jordan Walden worked the ninth for the Angels.
Beavan allowed six runs and 10 hits in five innings.
