RHP Kevin Millwood might be able to make his next start after all. Things looked dicey for Millwood after he came out of Wednesday’s game with a groin problem, the second time this month that’s happened. But he said Thursday he was feeling much better, although the Mariners want him to get clearance from the medics before they say he’s good to go.

DH Luis Antonio Jimenez and C Guillermo Quiroz will represent Tacoma at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Buffalo on July 11. Both are 30, and both are first-time picks. Jimenez is hitting .325 with 12 homers, while Quiroz is hitting .325 with nine homers. It’s the first time since 2009 that the Mariners’ top minor league team has had more than one selection to the game.

CF Franklin Gutierrez, who was just starting to round into shape after missing the first two months of the season, had to come out of Thursday’s game after being hit on the right side of the face by a pickoff throw from Boston LHP Franklin Morales. Red Sox 1B Adrian Gonzalez missed the throw, which caught Gutierrez flush. Gutierrez went to the ground in a hurry, and he had to be helped off the field. After the game he was said to have a mild concussion; he’ll be re-examined Friday.

RHP Felix Hernandez threw a five-hitter against Boston for his fifth career shutout, his first since June 30, 2010, in Yankee Stadium.

PH John Jaso delivered a ninth-inning single that produced the game’s only run and Seattle’s third walk-off victory of the season. Jaso has seven game-winning RBI, the most on the Mariners roster.

LF Casper Wells saved RHP Felix Hernandez twice in the top of the eighth inning. First he came charging in to make a tough catch of a ball hit by Boston SS Mike Aviles. Then Wells raced to the left field line, sliding across the line and into the wall while stealing a probable extra-base hit from Red Sox LF Daniel Nava.
