A good neighborhood is one where singles, couples, families, young adults, seniors and retired persons all live together and enrich their community with growth and support for all. This can make a neighborhood the joy of life.
I live in and love the South Loop and I am troubled by what I hear about the old Jones High School building. The arguments presented do not support the most positive use for the building and best choice for strengthening the neighborhood.
Without children, a neighborhood is not whole. There are so many children being born and growing up in the south loop. No one wants to move away from here – yet when it’s time for the kids to start school, parents have to make some difficult decisions. Why can’t this building continue to be an education facility?
I am anxious to attend Alderman Fioretti’s town hall next Tuesday to discuss this issue. I understand that the other potential alderman have not registered any opinion or awareness of this matter. I look forward to discussion of this interesting and important issue in one of the very famous Chicago neighborhoods.
