This letter is in response to “Gang factions fuel violent year” (Page 1, Oct. 3).

We lost nearly 4,500 Americans in the war in Iraq. We’ve lost more than 2,000 in the war in Afghanistan and it’s growing. As of Sept. 29, 392 people have been murdered in Chicago so far this year, mostly at the hands of gangs. Perhaps we aren’t doing a very good job of picking our wars.
