Recap: Devils 3, Sabres 2 (SO)

Devils 3, Sabres 2 (SO): Patrik Elias scored with 66 seconds left to force overtime before notching the deciding tally in the shootout as host New Jersey halted a six-game winless streak.

Adam Henrique added a power-play goal and Johan Hedberg made 23 saves before stopping both shots in the shootout to snap a personal seven-game (0-6-1) skid.

Brian Flynn scored his first NHL goal while playing in his fourth contest and Thomas Vanek had a power-play tally for Buffalo, which squandered a two-goal lead in the final 6 1/2 minutes.

The Sabres went ahead 2-0 midway through the third when Flynn scored on a turnaround shot from the right circle, but Henrique gave the Devils life by beating Jhonas Enroth at the 13:30 mark.

Elias buried a rebound with 1:06 remaining to tie it on a play in which Enroth was injured and had to be replaced by Ryan Miller, who stopped Ilya Kovalchuk in the shootout before David Clarkson and Elias converted.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Enroth made 27 saves in his bid for his first victory since Nov. 26, 2011. … The Devils have allowed the opposing team to score first in eight consecutive games. … Buffalo’s last six games have all been decided by one goal, including four shootouts.
