As spring officially arrived Wednesday, the Chicago Weather Center said computer models are beginning to agree that the area will be hit with a snowstorm Sunday through Monday.
Spring arrived at 6:02 a.m. Two hours into the new season, wind chills were clocked at -4 in Aurora, -3 at DuPage Airport and -1 at O’Hare and Midway airports and in Waukegan and Wheeling. Some places in southeast Wisconsin had wind chills of -8.
Highs hit the middle 20s on Wednesday. Daily highs will rise to the 30s for the rest of the week and into the weekend, when more snow is in the forecast.
The normal for this time of year is about 50 degrees, but arctic air has swept into the Plains and the Midwest.
A year ago Wednesday, it was 85 as Chicago found itself in the middle of an early heat wave. Temperatures stayed in the 80s and upper 70s for the rest of the month.
