Rays 2, Giants 1 (10): Rookie Wil Myers drove in the winning run with a bases-loaded single in the 10th inning as host Tampa Bay snapped San Franciscoâ??s three-game winning streak.
Desmond Jennings drew a leadoff walk from Jean Machi (2-1) and stole second before Ben Zobrist and Evan Longoria walked to bring up Myers, who lined a single over Jeff Francoeurâ??s head in left field. Fernando Rodney (4-2) earned the win with a scoreless 10th inning for Tampa Bay, which remained one game behind first-place Boston in the American League East.
The late-inning drama overshadowed an outstanding pitchersâ?? duel between the Raysâ?? David Price and the Giantsâ?? Tim Lincecum. Price allowed one run on five hits without issuing a walk over nine innings, while Lincecum surrendered one run on six hits over seven innings.
The Giants took an early lead when Francoeur singled to lead off the third and moved to second on Joaquin Ariasâ?? groundout before scoring on Brandon Crawfordâ??s single up the middle. Francoeur had three hits against Price after entering the game in a 3-for-28 slump.
Tampa Bay answered in the bottom half of the third when Jose Molina drew a leadoff walk and came around to score when Zobrist hit into a fielderâ??s choice.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Longoria went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts and is hitless in his last 17 at-bats. â? Giants RHP Guillermo Moscoso will start Sundayâ??s series finale in place of struggling LHP Barry Zito, who has been pulled from the starting rotation. â? Rays RHP Alex Cobb (concussion, blister) began his minor-league rehab assignment on Saturday and threw four innings of one-run ball for Class-A Charlotte.
