SAN DIEGO — The Chicago Cubs claimed pitcher Neil Ramirez off waivers from Texas and assigned him to Double-A Tennessee.

The acquisition of Ramirez completes the player to be named later element of the Matt Garza trade last month.

The 6-foot-4 Ramirez, 24, is 9-3 with a 3.84 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 103 innings at Double-A Frisco. He was ranked as the Rangers’ 23rd top prospect by Baseball America entering this season.
