The New York Daily News reports: Jets coach Rex Ryan defended his decision to leave the team Saturday — cut-down day in the NFL, when teams finalize their roster — and fly to South Carolina to watch his son Seth, a freshman walk-on receiver at Clemson, face Georgia in his first college game.

Ryan, who received permission from Jets GM John Idzik to make the trip, said he “played dad there for a day and it was a lot of fun.”
