Thomas H. Fegan’s letter to the Tribune on Sept. 5 titled, “Perpetual war,”has brought to fore some very cogent points.

I just read an article in the Sept. 9 issue of Time magazine with a quote at the end that read: “There is no substitute for the United States.” This is as true as its cover comment: “Barack Obama ran for President to get the U.S. out of wars, not into them.”

Shouldn’t the Obama administration, along with all the policy movers and shakers, consider taking a sabbatical from the somewhat thankless task of handling world affairs beyond its shores for a while to get a moral high-ground perception on what best to do next.
