Maple Leafs 4, Senators 3 (SO): James van Riemsdyk and Mason Raymond scored in the shootout as visiting Toronto won for the eighth time in nine games against Ottawa.
James Reimer made 47 saves and was perfect in the bonus format. Van Riemsdyk added a goal and two assists in regulation while Phil Kessel and defenseman Jake Gardiner also tallied for the Maple Leafs, who improved to 4-2 in the shootout.
Clarke MacArthur, Erik Condra and Erik Karlsson scored for the Senators, who are winless in five home games and fell to 0-4 in shootouts. Craig Anderson stopped 28 shots.
The Maple Leafs led 3-1 after two periods, but Condra scored 2:23 into the third to cut Ottawaâ??s deficit to one and Karlsson finished a nice passing play on a power play to tie the game with 9:30 remaining in regulation. Anderson and Reimer made four saves each in overtime to send it to a shootout, where van Riemsdyk scored with a backhand deke and Raymond fired a quick wrist shot over Andersonâ??s glove to seal the win.
Van Riemsdyk opened the scoring 1:37 into the contest jamming home a loose puck in front of the net but MacArthur replied at 9:44 with a one-timer from the high slot. Kessel finished a perfect saucer pass from van Riemsdyk on an odd-man rush 3:05 into the second period and Gardiner gave Toronto a two-goal lead with his first since April 5, 2012 at 11:37.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Maple Leafs D John-Michael Liles made his season debut, registering two shots and three hits in 17:51 ice-time. â? There were 66 total penalty minutes assessed as Toronto finished 1-for-6 on the power play and Ottawa was 2-for-8 with the man advantage. â?
