David Renzer

, chairman of the independent music publisher

Spirit Music Group

, has announced the launch of a West Coast office.

The expansion includes the appointment of

Ty McKery

to head the newly founded Urban Division, while

Teddy Blum

will become part of the licensing and acquisitions team. The new offices are located at 8730 Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles.

“It is important that we have a strong West Coast presence,” said Renzor in a statement. “Expanding our already successful film and TV creative department in L.A. makes perfect sense as we continue to accelerate Spirit’s growth.”

McKery hails from performing rights organization BMI, where she spent four years, and subsequently served as creative director and manager for Andrea Lewis.

Blum worked in the licensing department of boutique record label Chime Entertainment before becoming VP at i1 Media, a music company specializing in publishing, songwriting/publishing catalog acquisitions and artist management.

Spirit Music Group, founded in 1995, owns and/or manages more than 75,000 songs, with a repertoire that includes hits by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Barbra Streisand, Madonna and Chicago, among others.

It also handles the complete catalogs of Pete Townshend, T.Rex, The Grateful Dead, Andrea Bocelli, Charles Mingus and Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
