Last week in the Business section there appeared a story about a rally at McDonald’s headquarters in Oak Brook to raise fast-food workers’ wages to $15 an hour for jobs which require no prior experience.
On the same day, there appeared another story in the front page section about the Chicago Park District lifeguards who have trained for several months and have had to pass specific and demanding swimming and life-saving tests and whose job is to save people from drowning. Their pay ranges from $10.36 to $13.38 an hour, depending on their qualifications.
It seems that the fast-food workers’ demands of $15 an hour is a bit unrealistic.
