The headquarters building for ABC television news in New York will now be known as The Barbara Walters Building.
Give me a break!
The woman did not discover a cure for cancer.
I have always felt that Walters’ skill as an interviewer was over-rated despite her ability to make interviewees cry. Walters became the star, and much of the focus of her interviews was on her.
As for her groundbreaking for other women in broadcasting, I think that, too, is exaggerated. Whereas she may have pioneered as a high-profile female, I am of the belief that others following her would have made their marks in the business based on their own talents and what they brought to the fore.
I am now aware of other women whom Walters actually mentored. Walters show, “The View,”
recently featured an homage to Walters ad nauseam, with celebrities coming out of the woodwork who went into obsequious diatribes never extolled about Mother Teresa.
At least Mother Teresa helped the poor.
