Former York track and cross country assistant coach Charlie Kern, who spent 10 years at the school, had a long-standing record of his broken recently.
He set a New York state high school sectional record with a time of 4 minutes, 13.07 seconds in 1987 for Sweet Home High School in the 1600-meter run.
That mark was broken at the end of May by Lake Shore High School runner T.J. Hornberger, who ran it in 4:12.77.
