Naperville plans to create a task force to study senior citizen issues in the community.
Naperville-area residents Bev Frier and Karen Courney proposed a formal city commission with subcommittees for education, transportation, housing, collaboration and health.
The problem isn’t lack of services, they said, but lack of coordination of the services offered by the city, Naperville Park District, counties, townships and nonprofit groups.
During an hourlong discussion, city councilmen said a formal commission would take staff time and dollars and comes with a host of legal requirements. They also said they do not have authority over the other government bodies that offer programs.
Councilmen unanimously approved a less formal task force. Details of its composition have yet to be determined. In the meantime, the city has a website for senior services at naperville.il.us/seniorservices.aspx.
