This week’s Theater Loop Showcase video is Suzan Hanson and Nmon Ford from Chicago Opera Theater’s production of Ernest Bloch’s 1906 opera “Macbeth,” currently playing the Harris Theater.
Bloch’s “Macbeth,” unlike Verdi’s much more popular opera of the same name, is not frequently seen. In fact, this is the opera’s Chicago premiere, coming shortly after its professional U.S. premiere last year at Long Beach Opera.
In this duet performed in English, Macbeth (Nmon Ford) is coerced by Lady Macbeth (Suzan Hanson) into killing King Duncan as he sleeps, furthering his ambitious campaign to power. “Macbeth” continues performances at the Harris Theater, 205 E. Randolph St., through Sept. 21.
