When we bring leftovers home from a restaurant I always ask for a piece of aluminum foil rather than a big Styrofoam container. Most of the time I’m taking home my kids chicken strips, a half a sandwich or a piece of steak and wrapping it in foil does the trick. Also, many restaurants offer “fun” plastic drinking cups for my kids. My 3 and 5 year olds can handle glasses just fine. If your’s can too, make sure your server knows to just put their water or other beverage in a regular glass. It doesn’t hurt to ask!

Leftovers from a restaurant usually come in a Styrofoam container — nobody recycles Styrofoam. We now go to the restaurant with a Rubbermaid divided rectangular food storage container. We put away half of our meal and feel good about not overeating and not throwing away Styrofoam.

Reuse styrofoam meat containers. After thoroughly washing, wrap in foil and serves as a platter for serving cookies/other desserts to neighbors.

I always bring my own tupperware and insist restaurants use it for our carry-out orders or any unfinished meals, instead of their containers/Styrofoam — filling the bins myself, if needed.
