The men who are accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of bikes and parts from Lakeshore Bike in Lakeview earlier this month have been caught, authorities say.
Jeremiah Aviles, 19, of the 6100 block of South Albany Avenue; Israel Perez, 19, of the 2100 block of South May Street; and Mauricio Franco, 22, of the 3200 block of West Cermak Road, were charged with felony burglary after police identified them as the men who broke into the shop, just off the city’s lakefront bike path, in the early morning hours of Sept. 14.
Franco, who allegedly turned himself into police, was arrested Sept. 19. Aviles and Perez were arrested the 21st.
At least five bicycles were stolen, including a Specialized model worth $7,000, two Fuji Norcoms and a Kestrel Talon, according to Chris Lentine, the shop manager.
“We believe that’s all, but we’re still trying to double check our inventory,” Lentine said. “We believe it was planned, because they showed up at 5 o’clock in the morning, on the nose.”
The burglary was captured on video by surveillance equipment, he said.
Lentine said some of the items have already been recovered by police, and he hopes the rest will be returned to the store. This is the second burglary to hit the shop in eleven years, he added.
