North Central College’s cross country team again proved it could run with the big boys.

The Cardinals, ranked No. 1 in the nation among Division III schools, finished second in the Notre Dame Invitational on Friday in South Bend.

Division II power Grand Valley State won the meet with 71 points, followed by North Central’s 82. The meet featured 14 Division I schools, including Southern Illinois, St. Louis and Pittsburgh.

Troy Kelleher led North Central, placing sixth with a time of 24 minutes, 14.7 seconds over the five-mile course. Right behind him was teammate Aron Sebhat in seventh at 24:16.7.
