The Enhanced Fujita scale, which measures the strength of tornados, ranges from the weakest at EF0 to the strongest at EF5. Here is how the scale works.

Measurement Damage possible
EF0
Wind gusts:
65 to 85 mph
Light damage: Damage likely to include chimneys, branches broken off trees and shallow-rooted trees being knocked over.
EF1
86 to 109 mph
Moderate damage: Can peel off roofs, push mobile homes off foundations and blow cars off roads.
EF2
110 to 137 mph
Considerable damage: Can tear roofs off frame homes, demolish mobile homes, overturn boxcars and snap or uproot large trees.
EF3
138 to 167 mph
Severe damage: Can tear roofs and walls off well-constructed homes, uproot trees and lift cars off the ground and throw them.
EF4
168 to 199 mph
Devastating damage: Can level well-constructed homes and blow away those with weak foundations. Cars can be thrown.
EF5
200 to 234 mph
Incredible damage: Can level strong-framed houses. Cars can be thrown the length of a football field. Trees can be stripped of bark.
