Kosta Karageorge, the missing Ohio State football player who disappeared Wednesday, was found dead Sunday.
Columbus, Ohio, police announced the 22-year-old fifth-year senior died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Karageorge’s body was found in a dumpster, and he was identified by his tattoos, Sgt. Rich Weiner announced.
The school issued a statement: “The Ohio State University Department of Athletics was shocked and saddened to learn today of the death of student-athlete Kosta Karageorge, a senior from Columbus. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Karageorge family, and those who knew him, during this most difficult time.”
Karageorge missed consecutive practices and was announced missing after his family raised concerns over a series of text messages they described as disturbing. In the communication with his family, Karageorge reportedly said his mind wasn’t right and blamed concussions for his confusion.
Susan Karageorge told NBC4 her son sent her the following text before vanishing: “Sorry if I am an embarrassment, but these concussions have my head all (expletive) up.”
Officers discovered Karageorge’s body at the corner of East Sixth Street and Courtland Avenue. Weiner said Karageorge died from what’s believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
