Saltwater seminar: The Salt Water Sportsman national seminar series is in the Florida Keys on Jan. 31. The seminar is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Coral Shores High School in Tavernier. Captains include offshore and inshore specialist George Clark Jr. of Key Largo, backcountry guide Jim Willcox of Islamorada, sailfish expert Paul Ross of Islamorada, backcountry guide Ron Brack of Islamorada, Marathon reef and wreck specialist Mike Biffel and snapper expert Diego Toiran of the Lower Keys and Key West. Python trainings: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has several Python Patrol trainings for people interested in learning about Burmese pythons and how to identify, report and safely capture the invasive snakes. Upcoming workshops are Jan. 11 and Feb. 8 from 10 a.m.-noon at Oak Ridge Hall at Tree Tops Park, 3900 SW 100th Ave., Davie; 10 a.m.-noon Jan. 17 and Feb. 1 at the FWC Regional Office at 8535 Northlake Blvd., West Palm Beach; and 1-4 p.m. Jan. 27 at Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, 10216 Lee Rd., Boynton Beach. Nature walks: Miramar Pineland, 3600 S. University Dr., Miramar, has twice-monthly Sunset Nature Walks for ages 6 and up from 5:30-7 p.m. The next walk is Jan. 11. Cost is $3 per person. To register, call the park at 954-357-8776.

Sailfish tournament: The second tournament in the Quest for the Crest sailfish series is the new Sailfish 400 Jan. 16-17 in Miami. Visit bluewatermovements.com.

Bass winners: Tom Trapani and Brandon Rose were the Bass-N-Fools Team of the Year for 2014. Terry Evans and Dave Piasecki had the biggest bass at 8.86. Prospective members can attend the club’s first meeting of 2015 at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 at BJ’s Bait and Tackle in Plantation or call 954-475-0248.

Bass tournament: The second annual Channing Crowder’s Bass Fishing Tournament is Jan. 17 out of Everglades Holiday Park. The weigh-in party, featuring food, live entertainment and live and silent auctions, is at Ron Bergeron’s Green Glades Ranch in Weston, where the top team will receive a check for $10,000.

Proceeds of the tournament hosted by Crowder, a former Miami Dolphins linebacker and WQAM radio personality, benefit the NFL YET Lester H. White Boys & Girls Club. Entry fee is $250 per boat. Bird counting: Everglades National Park has a Big Day Birding Adventure Jan. 17, where the public helps count birds within the park’s varied habitats. Meet at the Anhinga Trail parking area at 8 a.m. Be prepared to drive your car more than 40 miles to Flamingo, stopping at points of interest along the main park road. Some walking is involved.
