Lake County

Award: Lake County Housing Authority (LCHA) Executive Director and CEO David Northern Sr. received the 2015 Most Influential African American of Lake County Award at an event hosted by Chicago People’s Voice newspaper in Waukegan, recently. This award honors Northern as an outstanding individual who has shown strong leadership, compassion, and a magnanimous attitude toward his fellow man and who has excelled in his field. It also recognizes that he has, through his work in the Lake County community and at LCHA, improved the quality of life and conditions of the community. Awards were also presented to a number of noteworthy Lake County African Americans in the categories of civic leadership, community service, political leadership, religious leadership, freedom, and vision. In attendance was U.S. Housing and Urban Development official William Wilkins, director of the Illinois Office of Public Housing, along with other state and local elected officials.

Fair: North Chicago School District 187 will host a Parent/Guardian Resource Fair titled “On the Move Toward Excellence: Collaborating for Student Success” at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 3 at the high school, 1717 17th St. Designed to encourage collaboration between home, school, and community,this district-wide event will focus on summer engagement opportunities for students.
