My nephew recently came home from student teaching in Chicago Public Schools. He rinsed a cola can and put it by the sink to be recycled. He had brought the can home from school.

He told me the school does not recycle. I was rather surprised.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel has a lot of resources available to design and implement a recycling program. There are many school districts, including mine, that could provide examples.

It is disappointing that it is 2015 and that a city like Chicago, which wants to be a global city, has not taken action in this area.

I know there are many challenges facing CPS, but it seems that this is one that could be easily solved.
