Actually, red light cameras reduce side-impact collisions, which are significantly more dangerous than rear-end collisions.

Red light cameras reduce the danger to pedestrians, including senior citizens, when crossing busy intersections in my Edgewater neighborhood. And there are many seniors — like me — in Edgewater.

The revenue generated by red light cameras is a secondary issue.

Hands off the red light cameras at Sheridan and Hollywood in Edgewater! This is one of the busiest intersections in the city, where Outer Lake Shore Drive begins. I am and many others are grateful for the cameras there and need them there.
