Snow continues to fall in the Evanston area.
As of 6 p.m., approximately one foot of snow had fallen, according to James Maiworm, assistant director of the city’s Department of Public Works Operations & Maintenance, in a written release.
Heavier snow rates will continue until about 9 or 10 p.m. and then begin to taper off. For the rest of the night the city can anticipate an additional 2-3 inches as the snow diminishes to flurries by 4 a.m. The winds will continue to gust up to 35 mph until about midnight.
During the day, crews plowed all streets in the city with main and collector streets plowed multiple times. Tonight plowing operations will continue with a focus on preparing the main streets collectors and streets around schools for Monday mornings rush hour and School openings.
Tonight we have a anow route parking ban in effect at 11 p.m.
Monday, a snow emergency will be in effect as crews focus on plowing residential streets curb to curb.
Garbage and recycling collection will occur as scheduled but may be slower than normal due to the quantity of snow in the alleys.
Total city-wide cleanup will likely be occurring for the remainder of the week and additional parking restriction days may be required to facilitate proper clean up.
