Gov. Bruce Rauner has moved quickly and decisively with respect to the cannabis license applications. He has granted most of those on Gov. Pat Quinn’s approved list; others are undergoing legal review.

Whether or not you agree with this legislatively mandated program, it is good to see our new governor at work. He was elected to be the state’s chief executive officer, and that is how he is acting. For too long in Illinois, our elected officials have been reluctant to take any action that might conceivably offend some portion of their constituents and cost them votes.

Perhaps electing an experienced businessman, a person who is able to make decisions and who has the guts to carry them out, wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
