Movies: “The LEGO Movie,” rated PG, will be shown on the big screen at 2 p.m. Feb. 16. Animal crackers will be served, but attendees are welcome to bring beverages and snacks. Children of all ages are welcome with an adult. Registration requested.

Author visit: Paula Haney, author of “The Hoosier Mama Book of Pie” and owner of Hoosier Pie in Chicago and known for her homemade artisanal pies, will share some of her secrets at 7 p.m. Feb. 17. Learn her special techniques and purchase this book of delicious recipes. Registration required.

Conducting an orchestra: Celebrated young American conductor Andrew Grams gives us a peek at the orchestra as seen from the conductor’s dais at 11 a.m. Feb. 16. How does a conductor unify musicians? How do they determine the interpretation of the music? Registration required.

Performance: Great Works Theatre Company will present “50 States in 60 minutes” at 2 p.m. Feb. 16. Fasten your seat belts for a breakneck tour through 500 years of American history. From the pilgrims, to Edison, to Elvis … don’t miss this fast-paced treat on Presidents Day. For grades kindergarten and up with an adult. Registration required..

Teen book club: Kids in grads 8-12 and discuss “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green at 7 p.m. Feb. 16. Enjoy some snacks, and view scenes from the (PG-13) movie. A copy of the book (yours to keep) will be reserved when you register.

Chicago’s candy history: Historian Leslie Goddard shares Chicago’s history with producing our favorite candies, including Brach’s, Milky Way, Wrigley’s, Cracker Jack, Tootsie Rolls, and Frango Mints at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 17. Bring your lunch starting at noon, and coffee and dessert will be provided. Registration required.
