I was wondering if anyone knows why it takes weeks for gasoline prices to fall 10 or 20 cents per gallon, but in a matter of four days prices in the Alsip/Palos Heights area recently went from $1.99 to $2.49? Maybe this will quiet the news reporters from talking about how great a time it is to raise the motor fuel tax.

I saw a photograph in the paper of President Obama and a sign in back of him that says “middle-class economics.” And there’s a crowd of people behind him, and I’m thinking that’s about all that’s left of the entire middle class in the United States.

My new Daily Southtown is a disappointment. They made it just like the old Southtown was. Looks now just like a Tribune newspaper. Oh well.

To all who watched the Super Bowl, the call Pete Carroll made for a pass play on second down at the 1-yard line was just disgusting. Marshawn Lynch was eating up the Patriots with the run. The only explanation is that Carroll wanted quarterback Russell Wilson to throw the winning TD pass and get the MVP award. Lynch would have scored on a run.

Congratulations to the Daily Southtown. You found a new home with the Chicago Tribune. To be a part of a very successful newspaper with a most credible past is an achievement in itself. I hope we continue to see bylines from many of our past favorite writers with whom we shared our morning coffee. Congratulations and continued success.

I can’t believe the Southtown went back to its traditional broadsheet format, which is just ridiculous, especially for people who are trying to read in a confined spot. One of the main reasons I loved the Southtown is that it did not have this gigantic, have-to-fold-it-in-half broadsheet format. What a pain in the neck. Bring me the old format.

Here’s a good example for Chicago’s snow crews — go to Evergreen Park and see how when cars are parked on the main drag, they have them towed and their main and side streets are perfectly cleaned. Maybe the Chicago guys should go to that village and ask them how they do it. Maybe this would help because nobody’s got the answer in Chicago on plowing side streets soon. I’m just a fed-up taxpayer with these people. One excuse after another.
A special thank you to the volunteer neighbors who plow the roads with their private trucks. You are more efficient and you are more appreciated than the government!
To all the 96th Street and Avers Avenue snow angels — thanks for clearing all that snow from our sidewalks and driveways, making it easier to move our plowed-in cars. You are wonderful neighbors.
