Tinley Park’s elected officials need to get vision and hearing tests. They don’t see the unoccupied businesses and homes that are unkempt, and they don’t hear us taxpayers getting fed up with them. Give us a 60 percent decrease in our property tax. Thank you.

I really get a charge out of the Jackie Robinson West team being disqualified, especially when we’re playing against countries like South Korea that show up with giant-sized pitchers. Nobody checks on whether they have valid eligibility. You see this stuff going on all the time, even in the Olympics, which are a real joke. Everybody in sports is looking for an advantage, legal or not, and many get away with it. And who do we punish? A bunch of 11- and 12-year-old kids. We ought to hang our heads in shame.
Perhaps people are badmouthing President Obama because they are frustrated. One big point is Obamacare. Most everyone I know has had their health care premiums increase a lot since its implementation, not the reduction that Obama “promised.” Another is “Illegal” immigration amnesty. I know a lot of “middle-class” Americans who can’t find decent-paying jobs. Not everyone is quoting Rush Limbaugh. Personally, I don’t see President Obama helping the middle class much. I see more programs to help the poor, which is good but how about spreading the wealth? The middle class is being squeezed out of existence.

For those inclined to get involved in the various financial wealth offers that they hear on radio or TV, take the time to watch the show on CNBC called “American Greed.” The show is a primer on how to avoid getting trapped in bogus financial schemes. The old saying that “if it’s too good to be true it usually is” is proven repeatedly on this program. Seniors in particular should consider watching the show because they are considered easy targets by the soulless scammers.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes the White House to invite the Mountain Ridge Little League team from Las Vegas to congratulate it on its national championship now that Jackie Robinson West forfeited the title. Or does the White House have something against teams that play in accordance with standard recognized rules?

I totally agree with Ed from Tinley Park. The new Southtown format is terrible. It makes it more difficult for me to read. I like the added news but not the new format. Go back to the tabloid format.

I notice in Speak Out there are comments both pro and con about the Southtown’s new format. I don’t mind the new paper, except it seems to have changed from a cozy suburban paper to just another newspaper. I just hope it doesn’t become just another newspaper. In addition, it would be nice if people read newspapers more.
