Strange facts

True or not? Check it out:

The whole nine yards: American Fighter planes in World War II had machine guns that were fed by a belt of cartridges. The average plane held belts that were 27 feet (9 yards) long. If the pilot used up all his ammunition he was said to have given it the whole nine yards.

Cobweb: The old English word for “spider” was “cob.”

Comments made in 1955:

I’ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it’s going to be impossible to buy a week’s groceries for $10

If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.

When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 25-cents a gallon. Guess we’d be better off leaving the car in the garage.

More thoughts on aging:

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me. I want people to know why I look this way. I’ve traveled a long way and some of the roads weren’t paved.

(This one is especially for me.) “Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over my mouth!” My husband would wish that were true.

I wish I could do this: I’m not going outside until the temperature is above my age.
