Art: Kids in grade 2 and up learn to make their cartoons and comics pop with squiggle art, word-doodling and creative visual alphabets in an interactive workshop with local cartoonist Greg Sitkowski at 4:15 p.m. Feb. 26 at 701 Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills.

LEGOs: Grades 6-12 can build and program the “goal kicker” robotic model using the LEGO Education WeDo software in this fun, hands-on program at 7 p.m. Feb. 26. Registration required.

Performance: GreatWorks Theatre presents “The Ugly Duckling” at 11 a.m. Feb. 28. This adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story reminds us about staying hopeful even when we feel like a “duck out of water.” For grades kindergarten through 5th with an adult. Registration required.

Sensory storytime: Sensory storytime will engage all of the senses through music, movement, stories, and play at 2 p.m. Feb. 28. This non-traditional storytime format is specially designed for children with special needs, autism, difficulties with sensory processing, or simply sitting still. RSVP’s are appreciated, but drop-ins are welcome.

Celebration: In celebration of this year’s Black History Month celebrate the unifying mysteries of rhythm and music to African culture at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 28. Some handmade Djembe drums will be provided or bring your own drums, bongos, rhythm sticks, and shakers. The drum circle will begin with a brief history of drum and proper placement of hands, the tones and voice of the drum. Then play a few standard patters that everyone can join in.
