Bob from Oak Forest was correct about Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. All he did was take Wisconsin’s billion-dollar deficit and turn it into the black. That’s something no Democratic governor has done for Illinois in a generation. They’ve only added to a multibillion-dollar deficit.

Isn’t it amazing what competitive bidding can accomplish? The politically connected printer used by Tinley Park was suddenly able to reduce its price for producing the village’s newsletter by $10,000 after the project went out to bid for the first time in 10 years. The citizens of Tinley Park should be outraged that their hard-earned tax dollars were used to unfairly benefit Crossmark Printing and other politically connected vendors used by the village. I wonder how much of this goes on in other Southland towns?

Midlothian police paid a $500 ransom to unlock a computer that was hacked. When the same thing happened to me, I called Microsoft Security. For $50, they unlocked the computer and removed the virus. They told me if I had paid the ransom, the hacker would have probably demanded even more money. Midlothian needs a better IT department.
When will President Obama and his political entourage learn how to make a visit to Chicago without totally screwing up rush-hour traffic, especially in this freezing cold? I know he doesn’t care about us common folk who have to work and get home to our families. But c’mon man, don’t stop Dan Ryan traffic.
Mike, South Side
I’m not a real Obama fan, but I don’t think we should build his library here because every time he comes to Chicago they close all the expressways that he might be using. Since he probably won’t be retiring here, we will have to put up with his visits and more street closures if the library is in Chicago. Chicago is a city that just wants to get to work and play without all the bull.
Everyone agrees that the kids from Jackie Robinson West should be proud and not blamed for forfeiting their U.S championship. The adults involved are the ones who tried to bend the rules but got caught. But don’t ever think that this isn’t widespread. The Little League rules must be changed for all teams, those in the U.S. and elsewhere. How can U.S. teams be restricted to a small geographic area when others have their entire country to pick from?

The accolades received for your redesign of the Daily Southtown are probably from people who don’t subscribe to the Tribune. As a Tribune subscriber, I now see repeats of features brought over from the Trib — food, dining, entertainment, etc. Why hasn’t Tribune Media Group given the Southtown more opportunities to expand local coverage? As the reader from Tinley Park opined, we’ve now got a “mini-Tribune.”

I want to thank all of the editors and staff at the Tribune that rescued our Southland newspaper from a slow and painful death. As a long-time subscriber, I watched as the paper sank under the Sun-Times ownership to nothing more than a tabloid not worth the paper it was written on. From sleazy front-page lures to male enhancement ads placed next to the obituaries, the format got worse every week. So now the paper is back on track, and I have returned to being a loyal reader of a professionally composed newspaper. Hats off to the entire Southtown and Tribune staff.

Can’t the Internet experts block the sick and depraved messages from ISIS showing beheadings and ransom demands and attempts to recruit U.S. citizens to their murderous organization? I can’t believe that the government can’t block these messages. What is going on with our government? And please don’t blame this on Obama, you Republicans.
Joanne from Matteson, so I guess you and every Obama-loving citizen have freedom of speech but no one else ? Obama deserves every criticism posted in Speak Out. And for BJ from Hazel Crest, you liberals have been criticizing President Bush and blaming him for the last six years of Obama’s failures, so get off your high horse.
Don from Homer Glen
