I hope Tinley Park residents have been reading Gregory Pratt’s stories in the Southtown about the village awarding contracts without bidding to businesses with political clout. Pratt has done a stellar job uncovering the unethical practices of the mayor of Tinley Park and his staff members. It’s no wonder they fudged the term-limits ordinance so it would not become effective until years from now. It’ll take them that long to shred all of their documents.

The new format of the Southtown stinks. Go back to the way it was before. If I wanted to read a Tribune, I would read a Tribune. I don’t like how you have different articles scattered throughout the paper.

Whatever happened to your Speak Out column in the s-clled Southtown? When the Southtown was really the Southtown, it was great. Then it became the SouthtownStar, and it was below average. Now, it’s nothing but a copy of the Tribune.

I recently started getting a new and improved Daily Southtown delivered to my door. I am thrilled with the new format. I especially like the detailed weather section. I really look forward to my paper now. Please don’t change back to the old format.

If our country can’t give the two men responsible for murdering a young police officer the death penalty, then you are taking away the best protection a police officer has. It should be an automatic death penalty for killing a police officer. After all, the police are the only and most important line of protection our population has. Without the police, our country would revert to complete chaos and lawlessness. If we can’t protect our police, then we are all in deep trouble.

I’m disappointed that Rauner is not going after the machine politicians like Madigan and Cullerton like he said he would. The only thing he seems to be going after is the unions. I voted for him and I’m disappointed.

After this Chicago election how many schools are going to be closed? I mean we closed 50, plus they got the lights and heat on in these schools where taxpayers are paying for it. I just want to know how many more schools they’re going to close.

What’s happened to our world? Today the els and buses are not safe. We don’t need more police. We need to ask why? Why do people think they can take whatever they want? Maybe it’s the violence in our entertainment and culture. Everywhere you look, TV, movies, video games — violence, violence. There’s something wrong with our culture. More police won’t help.

Diana, Orland Park

I was watching the History Channel with my granddaughter, and it was a thing about Jesus. In the middle of the show, a commercial comes on about Viagra. She’s 11, and she’s asking me what’s that for. Don’t they have any respect for people?

I thought that Bruce Rauner might make a good governor just because he is so wealthy. He doesn’t need to take our money for himself. How wrong I was. His wife shouldn’t need a $100,000 chief of staff. Some people are just greedy no matter how much they already have.

Ruth of Orland Park

When I was given the privilege of driving, my father told me a car is a lethal weapon and a huge responsibility. I don’t care if the road had dips like a roller coaster near where a pedestrian was killed Christmas night at 104th Avenue and San Luis Lane in Orland Park. At 80 mph, that is not an accident. It is willful murder at the hands of the driver.
