March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day and the wearing of the green. Just don’t make it bright green whipped cream on top of a key lime pie. I still shudder. The rest of the day be at the Crown Point Fire House, 126 N. East St.:
*To either get or watch heads being shaved to raise money for St. Baldrick’s campaign to fund research to end childhood cancer. From 3 to 7 p.m. Call (888) 899-2253. *Get a great corned beef dinner in the bay where the big fire trucks usually park. They will be outside so everyone can sit at tables to eat. Get tickets in advance from the Parks Department or at the fire house. Tickets for dinner are $10. Special tickets are $9 for seniors and $4 for a kids meal without corned beef.
*The business window decorating contest winner will be announced at the reviewing stand during the parade.
*Crown Point’s parade is the only night parade in the region. It starts at dusk and all entries must have lights. The Crown Point Star was in the first night parade in 2009 and it was a lot of fun. Kim Mathisen (that is her married name) danced a jig for the whole parade.
