Cook County Commissioner Jesus “Chuy” Garcia was handed a great opportunity to take his unlikely candidacy to the next level by offering specific fixes for Chicago’s budget mess. He failedm, sadly confirming the notion that he is a lot of empty platitudes.
To say I am disappointed would be a great understatement. While I know that Chuy’s decades-long political career makes it clear which way he leans, I was seriously hoping for a concrete response to the Emanuel train wreck that leaves Chicago bonds two clicks away from junk. The mayoral runoff debates ought to be more illuminating. Here’s hoping for a real discussion about the real issues facing our city. I am not hopeful.
