NEW YORK — The observatory at the top of One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the U.S., will soon be open to the public.

Tickets will go on sale starting April 8, and the observatory will officially open May 29.

The observatory takes up levels 100, 101, and 102 of the center. The main public viewing space is on the 100th floor, with restaurants on the 101st floor and an event space on the 102nd floor. Visitors will get a view of the city and its surroundings from above 1,250 feet.

Tickets will be $32 for adults and $26 for children, ages 6 to 12. Admission will be free for family members of those who died on Sept. 11, as well as those who worked in the rescue and recovery.

Crystal Grottoes opens tunnel

The Crystal Grottoes in Boonsboro are constantly evolving and growing. A new passageway has opened, called “The Tri State Passageway” after the Tri State Grotto group that helped with excavation, and it is nearly 100 feet long and packed with glittering formations.

The Crystal Grottoes also recently converted to LED lighting. “This project cost just upwards of $17,000 dollars and has drastically enhanced the experience that guests will receive throughout their tour. With great emphasis on careful placement of these new lights, we guarantee our visitors will see the caverns like no one ever has before,” said owner Jerry Downs.

The cavern was discovered on 4:30 in the afternoon of Sept. 18, 1920. Since that day it has been nearly 100 years that people have been coming from all over the world to see The Crystal Grottoes.

The morning of April 2, 1922, The Crystal Grottoes Caverns first opened for tours, at a cost of 7 cents per tour. Now, 93 years after the grand opening, the caverns are available to tour seven days a week from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. every day. Tickets are $20 for adults, and $10 for children under 12 years of age. — Karen Gardner
