Appointments

Mayor Dave Uran announced the following changes to Crown Point’s Redevelopment and Plan Commission appointments because of Keith Steven’s resignation.

Anthony T. Schlueter has resigned from the Plan Commission and has been reappointed to the vacancy on the Redevelopment Commission.

Richard Day has been appointed to the Plan Commission’s vacancy created by Schlueter. Day will be the mayor’s citizen Republican appointment

Fees

Entrance and recreation fees have gone up at Indiana state parks. The fee for an in-state vehicle is $7 and out-of-state is up to $9. The out-of-state fee at Indiana Dunes State Park is $12. This is the first increase since 2006.

The federal “duck stamp” has increased from $15 to $25. This is the first increase in 24 years. Ninety-eight cents of every dollar spent on federal duck stamps goes toward improving and preserving habitat, making it one of the most efficient funding sources for wildlife in the world.

Calendar

Every Thursday during the summer is the Car Cruise on the square except for fair week Aug. 7-16.

May 25 — Official celebration of Memorial Day. The parade starts on the square at 10:30 a.m. and the ceremony starts at Maple Wood Cemetery at 11. The parade honors our active military men and women as well as those who survived or perished from wars past.

May 26 —Wheeler Middle School’s Egg Drop starts behind the school at 8 a.m. if the weather is good.

May 28 — Pete Visclosky’s 2015 Military Academy Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Lake County Public Library, Meeting Room A. If you are interested in attending one of our five military academies you are encouraged to attend this event. The Congressman’s Military Academy Nomination Board will be on hand to meet prospective applicants.

June 9 — Purdue Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana’s 2015 Spring Scholarship Fundraiser from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Coach Joe Tiller will be at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Cedar Lake. Come support the Scholarship Fundraiser and meet Coach Tiller. Tickets are $45 for adults and $25 for children. June 12 —Special Olympics Golf Call Out at 5:30 p.m. at Cedar Creek Golf Center on U.S. 231 just east of U.S. 41 in Hanover Township.

Good cause

In case you were wondering, the city raised more than $65,000 at the St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event for childhood cancer research. Are you thinking about this for next year? Mark it on your calendar for St. Patrick’s Day.
