LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Lots of bass were being caught early in the morning around the outside grass lines where the fish were chasing shad. Topwater plugs, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits have all been effective.
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood reported some big largemouth bass were caught in Everglades canals swimming Gambler ribbontail worms and Flapp’N Shads on the surface and jerking floating Rapalas below the surface. Peacock bass were biting jigs and flies in urban canals.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: Snook were biting around the outside islands and river mouths along the Gulf coast of Everglades National Parak. Tarpon were biting live bait around bridges and channels in the Keys.
SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: Capt. Skip Dana said anglers on the Helen S and Fish City Pride drift boats at Hillsboro Inlet Marina caught lots of yellowtail snappers and a few blackfin tunas this week. He added that live-bait anglers were catching lots of tunas, especially late in the afternoon.
THE KEYS: Boats at Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada were catching decent numbers of schoolie dolphin. A few blackfin tunas were biting at the humps. Yellowtail and mutton snappers were biting on the reefs.
