We’re very proud of Banneker Achievement Center in Gary for achieving five-star status. The children, the staff and the parents work hard with the principal. Sarah Givens is a good principal, but she’s always getting the limelight. What about the others who are helping to make this a five-star school?
I don’t know what version of the Bible Gov. Mike Pence and the right-wing Republicans use, but it must be the Chamber of Commerce/Koch brothers’ version. It only helps the wealthy take care of the wealthy.
I just came from Chicago on Interstate 80/94, the Borman Expressway, and I kept my car at 70 mph. I was passed by everything on the road. I received the salute. I received angry stares. The speed limit is 55 mph on the Borman, and there were cops sitting on the side of the road. What part of this don’t I understand?
More about Lake Station’s referendum to help schools: Why don’t people pay their taxes? Look at the ones who don’t pay their taxes in Gary and all around. Look at the foreclosures on houses. Look at all the tax sales in Crown Point. This is dumb. I’m not going to vote for them to get extra money out of me. I don’t have extra money to give them and teachers.
I’d like to thank the person who turned in my wife’s ring on a recent Saturday at Kohl’s. It meant a whole lot to us. She really appreciated it. May God bless him.
I just wanted to make a statement about Friendship Land Park in Chesterton. It used to be the most beautiful park, and they said they were going to rebuild it. When is it going to be rebuilt?
Since the Republicans were in on that fast-track deal with President Obama, you know the whole country is going to get cheated.
Gary Police Chief Larry McKinley lives in Hobart. Gary Fire Chief Paul Bradley lives in Merrillville. They both make over $100,000 a year, so we all know where that money is being spent. The last fire chief, Teresa Everett, was forced to move to Gary. Why is this current fire chief not forced to move from Merrillville to Gary?
I think meteorologist Cheryl Scott is doing a great job on Channel 7.
The proposed Porter County Sheriff’s Department shooting range variance hearing was continued with an open-ended date, which means it can be revisited at any time. At last count, at least nine of the “Say no to gun range signs” have mysteriously disappeared. I wonder with whom we should file our complaints.
You can say what you want about Indiana legislators, but now we have a law that allows a driver to be arrested while driving the legal speed limit in the left lane of a four-or-more-lane highway because it stops those who want to exceed the maximum posted speed limit. Isn’t that great?
I’m always amazed when right-wing hypocrites attack the pope for being too Christlike.
Please leave Cheryl Scott, the weather woman on Channel 7, alone. She’s not a girl and knows her geography. Northwest Indiana isn’t just Lake, Porter, LaPorte, Starke, Jasper and Newton counties. If you divide Indiana into four equal quadrants, even a city such as Lafayette would be considered in the northwest part of Indiana.
I have another old-time remedy for constipation, and it works every time. Eat baked sweet potatoes and spinach.
