I have been saddened by all the recent attacks on Planned Parenthood in the media. As a nurse for more than 40 years, especially from my years in a public health family-planning clinic, I am so very aware of the need for quality reproductive and preventive health care screening that places such as Planned Parenthood provide so valuably.

Especially for the underserved population, access to birth control has often, sadly, not been readily available or affordable. Planned Parenthood has served this population for nearly 100 years.

I personally find the thought of abortion distasteful, as I’m guessing most folks do. I am pro-life; however, I am pro-quality of life!

Saddest of all is a woman forced to bring a child into this world whom she knows she cannot either emotionally or financially support. As we see welfare programs being cut constantly, these families can be trapped with no support, and children can be neglected.

I am very appreciative of Planned Parenthood and thank it for its most valuable service!
