Is Pete from Chicago serious about suggesting putting media mogul Oprah Winfrey on the $10 bill? Why is everybody so concerned about putting somebody different on our money? Just leave it alone. It’s worked forever. It’ll be fine. We don’t need Oprah having some other kind of accolade that she doesn’t deserve.
To everybody coming down on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his comments about Mexicans: Obviously not all Mexicans are bad. Everybody’s got bad and good in their race, but he’s talking about people who come across the border who are troublemakers, drug dealers and murderers. People like Francisco Sanchez, who came across the border illegally and was deported five times. He came back again and killed a woman in San Francisco. Why isn’t everybody talking about that, saying maybe Donald is right on some of these points?
People who don’t understand history don’t understand the real definition of socialism. Fascism is all about the dictator. Communism is all about the state. Capitalism is all about the individual. Socialism is all about the people.

Cook County Judge Kerry Kennedy’s response to the prosecutors in the trial of Charles Sopko, when told that the Sopko family had lived a lifestyle well above their means was, “Did the Sopko family live above their means? Show me someone who doesn’t.” Judge Kennedy, I don’t live above my means nor does my family. It hasn’t always been easy to do so. We pay our bills with money we earn, we only take a vacation if we have money left after meeting our financial obligations. I can only assume from your quote, Judge Kennedy, that you are not one of us. No wonder Charles Sopko was found innocent.

It seems to me the Speak Out contributors have better solutions to our government’s present problems than the politicians themselves. For the politicians, it is “same old same old.” Joe and Jane Citizen have common-sense solutions, that is, you can’t spend what you don’t have.

The people who wrote the Illinois Constitution and the public employee unions have painted themselves into a corner. Chicago is either going bankrupt or it will end the traditional pensions for future employees. I don’t see any other way out. The city officials outsmarted themselves by negotiating union contracts that are impossible to fulfill. Years of conspiring with politicians against the taxpayers have backfired on the unions. In the end, everyone gets what they deserve.
Tinley Park
With the news of the Tinley Park water meter fiasco, it might be time for the former mayor, Ed Zabrocki, to apologize to the residents for allowing this to go on for so long during his several terms as mayor. The buck stops with him and he needs to step forward and apologize to the residents.
I’m really frustrated to know that the Cook County Forest Preserve District got $29 million to fix their camping sites. Are you kidding me, $29 million for camping? They got $29 million to build bunks for 30 or 40 people? This is where our tax money is going? What happened to bringing a tent and pitching a tent?

Your property tax bills are continually rising, not because your home has increased in value but because your local governments are wasting more and more of your money and they need you to pay for it.
Billy T
When are these Springfield politicians going to get their heads out of the sand and get a budget passed? Isn’t that something that taxpayers are paying them for? Every time you pick up the newspaper or turn the news on, it’s the same thing. As a taxpayer, I’m fed up with it. I’m tired of paying their salaries. You can’t come to some solutions? You don’t belong in Springfield. It’s time for term limits for Chicago and Springfield.
