Mark Roidt, 28. Decided at the last minute to join the hunt. Among the group that confronted Vang. Shot in the head.

Mark Roidt was the type a man who could walk into a bar and talk to anyone. His favorite T-shirt read: "If you?re not living on the edge, you?re taking up too much space." He swooned at racecars, whooped at the sight of checkered flags and thrilled to hear the roar of engines. But he still slept with the pillow he had as a child.

He boasted about being a bachelor and finding his freedom. But the last time he saw his girlfriend he told her to "stay a little longer." When she left him in bed, he was tucked under his old checkered blanket. He told her that he had decided not to hunt that day.
