I don’t care what anybody says about former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. I think he should remain in jail and serve his full sentence for corruption. Blago made a three-ring circus out of the whole thing before he went to jail, and he was doing it while he was in jail. I have no pity for him or his wife, Patti. The only ones I feel sorry for are the two kids because they’re the ones who have to go through life with all these problems and stuff. But he’s right where he belongs, gray hair and all.

I’d like to know what happened to Chicago police Supt. Garry McCarthy. I don’t see him anywhere, outside police headquarters, sticking up for his officers who were in shooting incidents. Come on. What is wrong with him? You’re supposed to be sticking up for your officers instead of worrying about their tattoos and their hats.
Regarding gay marriage, I take exception to saying there are no victims and no one will be harmed. I think people will be harmed. If gay people adopt children, nobody knows the far-reaching effects of children being raised by two men or two women. In nature, there’s a reason why two males cannot procreate and two females cannot procreate. This is an abuse toward future children, and we don’t know the effects.

Reading Letters to the Editor on July 26 really jump-started my day. The letter from Ned McCray from Tinley Park titled, “Obama impresses in many ways,” was really top-notch. Also, Sean Nettle from Homewood stated he couldn’t ask for a better local government than what he has in his hometown. Finally, I said to myself, “There is some good news out there.” Then I read Speak Out. The comments were good, but no one had anything positive to say, including myself.

I see where Red from Chicago’s Hegewisch community had some comments about Medicare and how it’s a free deal for seniors. I have news for him. If he’s a senior and has been paying taxes, he’s been paying into it since the day it started like I did. I’m 85 years old. Yeah, I get benefits from Medicare. I pay for every cent of it like I paid for every cent of Social Security I get. I started paying when I was 11 years old in 1941, so don’t tell me this is an entitlement.
Tom, Oak Lawn
Before I retired, I traveled around the United States and Canada. Driving many miles, occasionally you get pulled over by a policeman or trooper. I’ve always pulled to the side of the road, put both hands on the steering wheel, turned on my interior lights if it was dark and opened my window. I answered questions and was normally sent on my way. People should realize that one of the most dangerous things policemen do is a traffic stop. When they come up to the car, they have a legitimate concern. If you act responsibly, you’ll do fine. But people start an argument and the policeman gets offended.

I just read a Speak Out comment about how a city of Chicago employee is crying about losing his cost-of-living raise and comparing himself to a McDonald’s worker who forgot his French fries and wants $15 an hour. First off, Mr. City Worker, that McDonald’s worker will never make what you make a day in his life, while working or in retirement. You’ve been overpaid for 30 years. Don’t you ever cry about what anybody at McDonald’s makes.
