LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Bass fishing has been good. Kevin and Eric Love caught five fish weighing 26.2 pounds Saturday, including the big bass of 7.15, to win the Renegades Bass Club tournament out of Clewiston. Chris Crow and Jason Pike were second at 25.65 followed by Bill Boliek and Roland Crawford at 14.3.
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood reported that although water levels in Everglades canals were rising, largemouth bass were biting good early in the morning. His customers had success swimming Gambler Flapp’n Shads on the surface first thing, then caught fish on suspending jerkbaits and weighted plastic worms. Peacock bass in urban canals were biting topwater plugs early, then sight-fishing with bucktail jigs was the best bet.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: Tarpon were biting in the backcountry of Everglades National Park. Smaller tarpon and good numbers of redfish were biting on the flats in front of Flamingo.
SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: Capt. Mario Cote’ of Hollywood said dolphin were 25 miles offshore Wednesday. The fish averaged 6-8 pounds, although his anglers on No Vacansea did catch a couple of dolphin 10-13 pounds. Boats trolling the reefs south of Port Everglades Inlet were catching some bonitos and a couple of kingfish. Many charter boats were targeting sharks.
THE KEYS: Lots of dolphin 3-5 pounds were biting, along with some bigger keepers. The blackfin tuna bite was pretty good at the humps using live bait and trolling feathers.
