I wish these weather forecasters on TV would stop using the phrase “cold front” when the temperature goes from 93 degrees down to 85 degrees. That’s a cold front? A cold front would be about 40 or 50 degrees. They should stop using that term carelessly.

Boy, we have a lot of intelligent people in Springfield; don’t we? Gov. Bruce Rauner’s asking retirees to come back to work in case other workers go on strike. I’m a retiree, and I’m a union person. Do you think I would cross picket lines against my fellow workers? I’ll tell you what. These people in Springfield, they have no common sense, do they?

Regarding the suggestion that Cook County real estate taxes be billed four times a year rather than two, I would imagine that the administrative costs would be prohibitive. Here’s a concept. Create a bank account, and every paycheck or every few weeks, put some money in that account so that when it comes tax time, you have the money to pay your bill instead of scrounging and scraping to get that money together. I did it for many years, and it was a walk in the park once I became disciplined.

Why can’t you be assigned to a courthouse near you when summoned for jury duty? This shouldn’t be rocket science. I was called to serve in Maywood while living here in Hazel Crest, a few blocks from the Markham courthouse. I turned in my car keys a few years ago. However, I noticed they listed how to get there through public transportation. All I have to do is take the Blue Line train to the end of the line, which is Forest Park. Then I transfer to a Pace bus. Oh please, give me a break.

This country never ceases to amaze me. One after one, unarmed black men are being shot by white cops. Coast to coast and border to border, nobody seems to care. But let a dentist kill a lion in Africa, and animal activists want to start World War III. I don’t get it.

The Washington Redskins should not be able to use that nickname any more. After all, redskin is a derogatory name for a Native American. If they can’t have the Confederate flag in the South, then this team shouldn’t be able to use the Redskins name or logo.

Wonder why people still say, “God bless you” when one sneezes? The custom originated because people were thought to sneeze out their souls. Before their souls could return, lurking demons were apt to enter the un-souled body. But if anyone said, “God bless you,” the demons were frightened off.

All property owners in Illinois should revolt and not pay their property tax bill until we get a balanced budget in the city of Chicago and the state. These political leaders play with our money too much. Until they straighten out the city and state finances, they shouldn’t have ours. That’s my opinion.

I see that the knives are coming out against Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin as he seeks the Republican presidential nomination. Anyone who stands up for the taxpayers is labeled a bad guy. It is time for the taxpayers to fight back, and Scott Walker knows how to fight.

I’ve enjoyed Phil Kadner’s columns in the past. They were informative and often entertaining. But lately he mostly complains about Gov. Bruce Rauner, over and over, several days a week. Phil, please get over it.

In regard to the recent decision by Mondelez Corp. to move much of its Chicago production plant and its Nabisco brands to Mexico, I have made a decision also. If Mondelez cannot afford to hire Chicago-area workers at good wages and pay Illinois taxes, then I cannot afford to purchase and consume its products. Keebler and other local manufacturers of cookies and snacks will do just fine.
